In the past few years, The Bay Area’s J. Lately has been building a very nice underground following releasing single after single and countless visuals while touring all over North America. For his most recent single, J has recruited Living Legend and fellow Bay emcee The Grouch. The result is the new cut, “Clean.”
The track starts with a slow, groovy synth courtesy of producer Space Cadet. J. Lately comes in with a very melodic flow about coming into his own. The hook starts, “When the rain it falls down, just bring it all down/We’ll be ok…” with the perfect blend of his voice with a female vocalist layered over it. Grouch comes in right where J. Lately left off in the first verse giving us a glimpse into the emcees’ feelings at the moment.
This is definitely one of my favorite records from the dude to date and hopefully it’s a sign of what’s to come.
