Anjunabeats continues to push the envelope to redefine trance, and this new release from Jason Ross is no different.
Jason Ross throws us all a curveball with his latest release, titled “Onyx”. When people think of trance, and the Anjunabeats label especially, they generally expect melodic, euphoric sounds, but this track goes HARD.
It seems like subgenres are harder and harder to pin down these days as the popularity of electronic music skyrockets and producers try more and more flavors with their productions. “Onyx” doesn’t really fit into traditional definitions of trance; to me it is a blend of trance, a new hybrid, and a developing trajectory of the subgenre that is gaining more attention with those who listen to house and progressive and want to see what the world of trance is like.
As quoted by Jason Ross in his recent article with dancingastronaut,
“I really tried to push the envelope on this one and create something a bit more aggressive and unique compared to my other productions. Onyx has been a true dance floor weapon in my sets as of recent, and I’m excited to finally get this one out.”
I wouldn’t be surprised if we see Jason Ross perform at The Gorge this summer for ABGT 250, as he is one of the top acts on the Anjunabeats roster. In my opinion, “Onyx” is definitely up there with his tracks “Atlas”, “Coaster”, and “Higher Love”, which absolutely MUST be played come September.
