Is Jay Critch New York’s Next “Trap Star”?

Brooklyn’s Jay Critch is buzzing right now. I mean really, really buzzing. Jay is now signed to Rich The Kids, “Rich Forever” imprint and things are starting to move at light speed.  Without an album under his belt, Jay has already managed to work with Desiigner, Don Q, RichThe Kid, and New York producer Harry Fraud.

Jay is a rare new breed of rapper. I say this in the highest regard.  Not only does he have the swag and flow to attract fans from this new generation of listeners, he also spits.  There is no doubt he is a worthy representative of New York from a lyrical standpoint.

When I first heard Critch’s music, I felt a slight comparison to Fabolous. Don’t get me wrong,  Jay Critch is NOT a Fabolous copy. He is on his own vibe. However, I did see some of the same things in him I saw in Fab years ago. The ability to rap at a high level on a track. Being able to craft a song for the female demographic. And of course, there’s that Brooklyn connection.

Jay has been getting major looks from DJs as well, getting support from Hot 97’s Drewski and the legendary Funkmaster Flex himself. More recently the Rich Forever signee was covered by Fader. The article called Jay Critch, “The New, New York”.  This assertion led to words on Instagram with fellow Brooklyn rapper Tekashi 6ixNine.

All beef aside, Jay Critch is on the right path.  If you still don’t believe me, just look at his song ‘Fashion’ as the proof. The Rich The Kid assisted track already has 10.5 million streams on Soundcloud and still growing. Going forward it looks like Brooklyn and the city of New York may have found it’s next superstar. The future is bright for Jay Critch.
