Joey Kash dropped his double-disc album before Drake in 2018. That’s juice right there. I just need to clarify that Kash found more inspiration by Nas, Pac, Jay, Facemob and not so much by the 6 god for the motivation behind The Big Payback.
The Seattle rapper reps the city in his lyrics but clearly draws inspiration from mafia flicks and classic hip-hop from all over. Disc one features frequent collaborator TeekPunch for the majority of the production while Rob Skeetz grabs most of disc 2.
With 25 tracks on one album, Kash touches on various styles. He told me that making the album was a challenge to himself to showcase the various sonic realms he likes to explore. From West Coast to ‘classic east coast’ and a little draw from No Limit, Kash is a 2018 version of what a lot of us grew up on.
Favorite records: “Celebrate Life”, “How The Game Go”, “Shared Clothes With”, and “Struggling”.
