Joint Parenting: What Kind of Parent Am I?

A few weekends back, my beautiful baby boy turned one. As he gets older, I constantly find myself wondering, what kind of mom am I going to be? Today’s society is full of pressure and expectations for every type of parent. It’s easy for even the most strong-minded of moms to get caught up in the fear of being judged. When it comes to parenting and cannabis use, or what we like to call “joint parenting”, many people don’t know how to effectively manage all of the madness.

Generally speaking, moms are not allowed to put themselves first in any way or fear being called selfish or unappreciative. Although we’re in a very progressive state, working often or pursuing a career is typically viewed as if you’re abandoning your child and missing out on key bonding time. For some of my mom friends and I, when we have gone out in the past we’ve been called names that categorize us as “some party girl who shouldn’t have had a kid”.

Living in a cannabis-friendly state, a “new” issue has arisen where people love to say that you can’t be a responsible parent and smoke cannabis. Despite being legal in 29 states, many people still think cannabis makes people lazy and is overall something to be looked down upon. For some reason though, society believes that if you have a glass of wine at noon, everything is all good because you’re probably just dealing with a high maintenance toddler.

Hopefully, you’re starting to see a pattern here.

Society is always going to want you to be something you’re not, so why continue to let that motivate your life? I’m here to let you know it’s ok to consume cannabis and be a mom. I work full time, I maintain my home (my man helps when I let him), I manage my son, cook dinner, and work out. It’s a lot, and I hate to break it to many of you but there is no way in hell I could do most of it completely sober. We all need a little something to get through the daily stressors of our lives. Once a week I’ll give you glimpse into how cannabis helps me be a better version of myself and help debunk your reefer madness.

Between now and my next joint parenting update, share your thoughts and concerns in the comments or connect with us via email or on social media below. We want to know your opinions on being a cannabis-loving mom and how you talk to your children about weed.
