Kanye Wants To Legally Change His Name to “Ye” After Submitting Court Documents

Kanye West has had a rollercoaster ride of a year. In early 2021, West and his wife Kim Kardashian announced they were getting a divorce. As the year progressed, the Chicago rapper started gearing up for the release of his upcoming album titled Donda. After missing a few release dates, fans of West are still desperately waiting to hear the album in its final state.

Most recently, Kanye has been caught up in some beef with Drake. After a Drake feature and a Kanye screenshot, it is very clear that the two rappers aren’t on pleasant terms. As the year progresses, Kanye has found a new way to make headlines.

According to Billboard, Kanye West filed documents on Tuesday, August 24th to legally change his name. The Los Angeles Court filing states that West is looking to change his full name, Kanye Omari West, to “Ye.”

This isn’t too much of a surprise as the rapper has been rolling with this nickname for a few years now. Furthermore, in 2018, the rapper declared that he wanted to be known as Ye and only Ye. Specifically, he tweeted “the being formally known as Kanye West. I am YE.” This filing is still awaiting the approval of a California judge.

How will Ye’s recent court filing affect his family?

As this story progresses, many fans are wondering how this will change things among West’s family. Even after filing for divorce, Kim Kardashian-West still holds on to her ex husband’s last name. In addition, all of Kanye’s children share his last name. Will the rest of Kanye’s family keep or change their name? It is an interesting situation, surely bound to progress further.

Kanye West continues making headlines in 2021, and we can only hope this is building up to a successful and exciting release of his highly anticipated new album, Donda. While he awaits the approval of his name change, he is also preparing a third listening event for the album in Chicago.

It’s reported that this listening event includes a life-sized version of his childhood home; the same home where his mother, Donda, raised him. As of right now, the album release can be expected by the end of August. Until then, Ye’s fans will have to patiently wait.
