In the hip-hop world, it’s not uncommon to hear about the struggle. It feeds into the poetic side of the musical genre. However, very few are from the viewpoint of an immigrant. Kays is a Canadian artist that immigrated from Lagos, Nigeria. In his new single release, “Conquer,” Kays has an emphasis on how personal development has been a major influence while he was creating his EP.
About “Conquer” By Kays
“Conquer” is on his new EP titled “Heavenly Race.” This has been a five-year project that Kays has put a lot of work, sweat, and passion into. Kays said that “everything is planned and done with purpose” about the album. After five years of hard work, Kays has been able to create an album that he hopes to inspire and help people get through their struggles. Hopefully, people will realize that “you can make your own way” says Kays.
This is the second EP the Vancouver-based put out by the Vancouver-based artist. He released his first EP, “No Underrate,” in mid-2020. This shows that he was still releasing music and projects while polishing “Heavenly Race.” This means he is not slow with the music creation or with the process. Thus, it shows how much deliberate attention he gave “Heavenly Race” and how much this project means to him.
Just like the rest of “Heavenly Race,” “Conquer” really showcases the signature Kays sound and lyrical vibe. He uses his personal experience and stories to litter his diverse musical productions with poet words. His sound is not only diverse but also unique. Kays is not one sound, but a fusion of styles from around the world. A song may emphasize a specific style or taste all flavors of music. He is not only known for his afro-fusion but also his dance hall/reggae and hip-hop.
