Australian psych-rock army King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard perform even more than they record, and they record a lot. So far, they have released 23 full-length records in a decade, of which six came out last year alone! In between their long hours in the studio, the six-piece habitually hits the road to bring their music directly to the fans who support them — a fair trade.
As part of their extensive touring itinerary scheduled this year in Europe and the United States, King Gizzard has announced a one-off marathon show at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles this summer. The three-hour set will take place on June 21, concluding their 13-date USA Residency Tour.
Before the Hollywood Bowl performance, King Gizzard will play three shows each in four venues across the United States: Tennessee, Colorado, Illinois and Washington. They will then head to LA to wrap things up before jumping back across the pond to resume the European leg of their tour. The group has an abundance of new music to share live, so it comes as no surprise that they’ve devoted three entire hours to their grand finale in the United States.
Earlier this month, they commenced their trek in Europe with a performance in Paris. English rockers Los Bitchos are currently opening for them till the end of March, after which they’ll take a short break (with the exception of three concerts in Australia and one festival appearance in Boston). Who knows, they might even record another album before reemerging in June for their American dates. In August, they will return to Europe and call it a day in early September with a performance at the End of the Road Festival in Dorset, UK. On their second run, King Gizzard will have the Prize opening for them.
One of the most prolific groups of the modern era, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard have covered more ground, literally and figuratively, than pretty much all their peers. These guys never stop working and the quality of their material has yet to diminish. Take a moment to appreciate that — musicians who work as hard as the rest of us and are always making an effort to bring something new to the table. In exchange for our love, they give us theirs. Whether it’s in Europe or the United States, if you’re in the right place at the right time, like Los Angeles this summer, watching them perform should be on your to-do list. Considered by many to be among the greatest live acts of all time, right up there with Flaming Lips, they are guaranteed to put on one hell of a show!
