Knuckles Glass & The Rage Cage Steadily Growing With the Culture of Cannabis

With the increase in sales of cannabis, there has been an increase in demand for glass blowers. Artists that have been grinding for a while are now able to make a decent living with the popularity of cannabis culture continuing to rise.

Respect My Region recently went to check out Drags Glass Studio aka the “Rage Cage.” This glass studio is located in the heart of South Lake Union and is the last public rental space for glass blowers here in Seattle. The Rage Cage is home to some of the town’s top artists.

Seattles Top Glass Artist@chrisdragsglass – Owner of the “Rage Cage”

We sat down with James Knuckles aka Knuckles Glass, who was nice enough to show us how a spoon pipe was blown. James has been blowing glass for roughly 2 years and recently decided to go full-time as a glass blower. Living in his van that has been designed for “simple living”, James is slowly creating a name for himself.

Q: Where are you from?

A: I’m from North Seattle, Bothell the “425.” But I moved down here to Seattle a couple weeks ago.

Q: How long have you been blowing glass?

A: I’ve always blown glass here at the Cage, but I’ve been blowing for about 2 years.  I was set up at home for a little while but its super important to be surrounded by other artists, so I’ve been down here for the past couple of weeks full time.

Q: Do you have a specialty of glass blowing that you like to do?

A: Specialty.. – I haven’t found one “Style.” Everyone has done a design once so you need to figure out something that people haven’t done. I’m trying to learn everything really well. It’s like tracing a picture as a kid. It’s the exact same, I trace other people’s pipes and figure out how they made it and then I make it my own.

Q: Where can people purchase your glass?

A: @knucklesglass on Instagram or James Knuckles on facebook. Message me and I’d be happy to work something out.
