Exclusive Krimer Interview

How long have you been Djing and what inspired you to start?

I started making music in 2013. I always wanted to make my own music but didn’t really know how to do it. There were not many tutorials on YouTube (I don’t even know if there was any), Splice was not a thing, so it was a different game. I got inspired after hearing dubstep for the first time. I wanted to create weird sounds for me and my friends. That was basically it.

Where does the name Krimer come from?

Long story short, I used to do graffiti before making music and my artist name was Crime. I thought it was cool but I didn’t want to use the same name so I just swapped the C for a K and added an R at the end, There’s no reasoning behind it.

As a Canadian artist, what would you say are the biggest differences in American versus Canadian Djs and fans?

I don’t see any differences at all. We’re basically all human beings doing and loving the same thing. Language is pretty much the only thing that differs.

Have you worked with Micah Martin before?

We did. The first time we worked together was on “Never Alone” with Kayzo and I knew I wanted to make an original with him.

Micah Martins voice combined with your dirty drops are reminiscent of collabs between Excision and Illenium. Did those artists have any inspiration when making this song?

No. I got inspiration by listening to different styles and blended a typical Krimer drop to it. I usually write stuff that I’m feeling at the moment.

Your music style is dubstep with nasty drops, but “Resurrection” starts off softer than your usual sound. Are you experimenting with new music styles?

I’m always trying to create a new vibe instead of sticking to one. I definitely plan on creating other similar songs.

What’s next for Krimer? Any post COVID plans or festivals?

I’ll be honest, not many plans at the moment. I’m working on music and planning to release a lot of songs. I’ve been sitting on a lot of music and I just want to release everything. As of now, we have no ideas when the shows or festivals will start again but I’m working on different projects.
