Lane 8’s Brightest Lights Tour Encourages Festival-goers To Put Phones Down

Lane 8, deep house producer, prepares to release his third studio album, Brightest Lights. Premiering on January 10th, the release follows his ongoing monologue about getting people to just put their phones down.

In our world today you can often never find someone without their phone glued to their hand. Whether that’s on the bus, the dinner table or at concerts, we have become a society addicted to distraction.

Stemming from his early memories of clubbing, Daniel Goldstein (Lane 8), is attempting to recreate the transcendence experience of letting go. He’s trying to capture the essence of his nights spent with friends dancing and forgetting tomorrow if only for a few hours. Currently on tour, he is recreating this is by taking a different approach than most. All his shows prohibit the usage of all phones and cameras.

“No matter what was going on in their lives, it was a place where, for at least a few hours, nothing else mattered but the sheer power music had to bring people joy.”

A lot of artists relish in the social media attention and publicity that live videos and photos from their shows grant them. Daniel is simply trying to give people the truly authentic experience of a night out. It is no secret that cellphones have simultaneously connected and disrupted our lives. In this case, recognition is the first step to recovery.

The possibilities of technology are endless, but they also limit the possibilityā€¦

Let us not ignore what is right in front of usā€”our phones. As we delve deeper into the error of technology it is so important to check ourselves. We listen to songs that move us and hear stories about nights spent under the stars, but most of us never even bother to look up.
