Lauren Mayhew’s career has been massively successful and continuously gains momentum. She has opened for the likes of Britney Spears, Destiny’s Child, and has even performed at the Super Bowl. Mayhew consistently shows how dynamic of a creator she is and has actively maintained a career in film/TV while being a full-time musician, producer, and DJ.

I was able to catch up with Lauren Mayhew to ask some questions about her latest release with Mariline, as well as get into the nitty-gritty behind her staggering success. Check out the interview below.

What inspired you to write “We Are Home”?

“I wrote “We Are Home” while in Amsterdam at the Amsterdam Dance Event. ADE is this amazing festival and convention where dance artists from all over the world come to write, share new music, and connect. I felt so ‘at home’ … hence the title and the inspiration.”

Did you write the song alone?

“I did actually! But the track was created by a producer named Mariline.”

What’s your favorite place to write music?

“That’s the beauty of writing… you can do it anywhere! I love to travel and I bring tracks with me usually because you never know when inspiration will hit! I write most of my songs now on my balcony overlooking the Empire State Building in NYC.”

Singer/Songwriter, DJ/Producer, Actress. How do you keep up with everything you do?

“[Laughs] Luckily, in today’s entertainment world, all of these things tend to work together. Sometimes I will act in a show and then license songs to the soundtrack. When I DJ, I’m able to present all the new music I’ve been writing and singing to live audiences. I hope to do even more of these cross-overs.”

In a seemingly Male dominated industry, what are your thoughts/feelings on being a female DJ/Producer in the EDM Industry?

“It can be challenging at times, and I definitely feel female DJs are scrutinized more closely, but there’s also a large demand for us since there are so few. So if you really hone your skills and work hard, I think you can actually utilize the uniqueness of being a female to your advantage. What is it Beyoncé says? “Who run the world? GIRLS!” [laughs]”

What advice would you give to young women that are pursuing a music career in the EDM industry?

“Be strong! Know your self- worth, and don’t compromise your integrity. I highly recommend women in music to get a manager, agent, or booking agent as soon as they are able. Having someone else negotiate on your behalf and look out for you is everything!”

Has Covid-19 had a large impact, positive or negative, on your career beyond the cancellation of shows/music festivals?

“I definitely miss all the live performances, although some are starting to come back. I’m performing at South Hampton Social Club this Saturday. It’s forced me to be creative when connecting with fans. I have loved DJ live-streaming; and I’ve also really focused on writing new music! I have so many awesome collaborations and smashes coming out I can’t wait to share with you all!”

What do you have planned for the rest of 2020?

“Mix and master all these songs so that I can share them with the world! I am also shooting a pilot in LA beginning of October, so I will probably do some more writing sessions with producers and songwriters out there while I’m on the West Coast.”
