Levi’s Now Makes Hemp Clothing With The Help Of Outerknown

Hemp has an array of uses. One of its best uses is that it makes a great fabric to use for clothing. Levi’s, the famous jean company, has developed clothing using hemp that feels just like cotton. Using technology developed by a specialist, from a company called Outerknown, that softens the feel of hemp, making it more appealing to use in clothing.

Hemp requires less water than cotton to grow. These pieces of clothing aren’t 100 percent hemp, they’re a 70/30 cotton and hemp blend. Using hemp has reduced water consumption needed to produce these products by 30 percent. Their hemp crop relies solely on rain to grow.

The collaboration between Levi’s Wellthread collection and Outerknown launched last fall. This line uses as much recycled materials as possible, making a closed loop system to minimize the amount of waste. This spring and summer consumers can expect to see jeans and a trucker hat.

Technology that provides clothing companies the opportunity to integrate hemp into their product lines could provide valuable alternatives to cotton. Hopefully, these additions to an already established line bring more success.
