Cameron James Pettit, 28, has been charged by federal prosecutors for his role in the death of the late rap star Mac Miller. Miller was arguably one of the top performing hip-hop acts in the world when he was found dead of an accidental overdose on Sep. 27, 2018. He was 26 at the time of his passing.
A 42-page complaint filed in the Central District of California alleges that Pettit had agreed to sell Miller 30mg pills of oxycodone, cocaine, and Xanax. According to that same report, the drugs provided by Pettit were laced with Fentanyl. Fentanyl has been an epidemic in the United States as of late, resulting in thousands of accidental overdoses per year in the United States alone.
Who Is Cameron James Pettit?
As of now, his relationship to Miller seems to solely be that of a drug dealer. Pettit and Miller had extensive conversations in the days leading up to Miller’s death. Much of the discussions have Miller arranging to buy the drugs that many now believe to have killed him. Along with the laced drugs, Pettit is also believed to have provided Miller with the services of a prostitute, who brought the drugs to Miller.
In the days following Miller’s death, Pettit sent cryptic DMs from a now-deleted Instagram account. He wrote that he was going to “move to another country” and “get off the grid.” He prefaced this by saying “nothing has happened yet… but it might.”
As of this very moment the charges against Pettit are solely that of distributing a controlled substance. If indicted, he could potentially face up to 20 years in federal prison.
