MacGruber is almost folklore. The short SNL skit turned into a cult classic movie that no one asked for in 2010 lives in the minds of anyone that’s watched it. Out of seemingly nowhere, at least to me, the classic character played by Will Forte is back in 2021 with a new self-titled series on Peacock.
The cast features some major returns from Kristen Wiig as Vicki St. Elmo and Ryan Phillippe as Lt. Dixon Piper joining the hero MacGruber. Across 8 episodes in the season, fans can expect Forte to steal the show cutting up, Wiig to carry some hilarious tunes, a lot of “mother fuckers”, and a whole heap of throat rips.
Sure Will Ferrel and John C. Riley may have more notoriety than Will Forte when it comes to the “late-night” comedy genre but to me, every time Forte opens his mouth I chuckle. This man is fucking hilarious and MacGruber is his grand opus.
While MacGruber continually makes a fool out of himself he somehow saves the day each time without looking like too much of a putz. In the midst of non-stop comedic moments, Forte may share the screen but he owns the one-liners throughout. Checkers.
