For the first time ever, former rapper Machine Gun Kelly lands at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with the new album Tickets to My Downfall.
The Cleveland artist’s fifth studio album earned 126,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending Oct. 1, with 63,000 in pure sales. The album, executive produced by Travis Barker, is a departure from the rap norm, taking on a pop-punk sound.
It marks MGK’s fifth top 10 overall, beating out Hotel Diablo (No. 5, 2019), Bloom (No. 8, 2017), General Admission (No. 4, 2015), and Lace Up (No. 4, 2012).
Tickets to My Downfall, which features collaborations with Trippie Redd, Halsey, and Travis Barker, also becomes the first rock album to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in over a year. The album, released on Bad Boy/Interscope Records, is the first #1 for the label since Day26’s self-title debut in 2008. Label head Diddy was sure to congratulate MGK on his success.
Elsewhere on the charts, Pop Smoke’s Shoot for the Stars Aim for the Moon falls two slots to 4 with 71,000 equivalent album units. Juice WRLD’s posthumous Legends Never Die fell one to 6 with 48,000 units. YoungBoy Never Broke Again’s former chart-topper Top falls to 9 in its third week with 42,000 equivalent album units.
