Macklemore and Ryan Lewis / Same Love

When I heard that Macklemore was going to be releasing a new track today, I was obviously hyped, exactly like everyone else in the Northwest. When I went to check out what song Mack had released this morning, boy was I surprised. I’ve come to realize that Mack has his own way of doing things, and this song is a GREAT example of that. While every other rapper in the industry (Excluding Jay-Z and Frank Ocean) is afraid to talk about the subject of gay marriage. It was to my surprise that Macklemore released a song that could change the course of rap for both himself and the whole industry.

In case you didn’t know, Macklemore made a pretty big splash in the rap arena over the last year. He sold out shows from coast to coast and doing it without changing who he is. It’s exciting to see an artist with that big of a following take a stand such as this. I can’t explain how awesome it is to see the response that this song has already gotten and I think that it will be a positive message for so many people to hear.

You can read what Macklemore wrote about this song over on his website, but here’s a little snippet that I found to be noteworthy:

My hope is that my personal testimony can help in some way to not only advance the dialogue and approve Referendum 74, but also to help shape a culture of belonging in which ALL people are equal.
