2017 is primed and ready to be a huge year for Seattle hip-hop. Thanks to Macntaj and rappers like Gifted Gab, Nacho Picasso, Raz Simone, Dave B and countless other artists, the level of competition here in the Pacific Northwest has gone up to a whole new level. With only a few singles under his belt, ‘Lightwaves’ was one of our favorite releases last year. ‘Gods Bleed’ was dope, but didn’t quite resonate as well as the previous single. Macntaj – Deception shows a continued pursuit of top notch production and controversy.
Creativity and a commitment to quality over quantity has allowed hip-hop to transcend traditional genres in the emerald city. In June of 2016, we saw EDM legend, Bassnectar, build a bridge between electronic music and true rap fans featuring Macntaj on his album’s most popular song. For rap fans, you may not understand how big this is. That’s the equivalent to a Timberland cosign in hip-hop. We think Macntaj is going to do serious numbers online this year and further break down all musical boundaries being set by both the electronic and rap music communities. Blending both electronic influences and live instrumentation in his music, Macntaj brings a unique sound that truly shines alongside one of RMR’s favorite electronic music producers, DJ LEViTATE.
Mac’s latest release has proven that he is addicted to high quality sound. Adding Teza Talks to the hook brings the well mixed record to an energetic climax and Donte Peace’s flow coming in over the trumpets was powerful. Listen below and let us know what you thought of Macntaj – Deception.
