As Detroit is waking back up from the crises surrounding 2020, the live music scene is quickly recovering. Marcus Elliot is a rising, if not risen, saxophonist out of Detroit with an excellent history, and even brighter future.

Playing the DIA last November, the Marcus Elliot trio regularly lands the premier venues in the city. They just performed at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Fans of relaxed jazz can’t miss this event, as the trio of Marcus Elliot on sax, Noah Jackson on bass, and David Alvarez on drums is one of the classiest modern acts you can find.

What Makes The Marcus Elliot Trio Essential?

Smooth doesn’t cut describing what the Marcus Elliot Trio achieves. With throaty sax and perfectly extended bass chords, their pace is between nodded out jazz and rock music. A flirtatious drum can lull you into your seat and bring you to the edge in the same measure. The Elliot sax is as likely to win you over as it is to raise your hairs.

For those looking for a fresh point to get into a modern jazz outfit, there’s little as welcoming as this group. Through holding notes in a way reminiscent of early jazz and the relentless pacing of certain songs, a variety is displayed in great taste. Passages don’t drag, but they’re not raced through. Instead, a steady confidence dominates the atmosphere. Those lucky enough to attend only had to spend the $12 to enjoy one of the most convincing currently active bands in the genre.

Otherwise, find Marcus Elliot’s music here, and make sure to keep up with the Detroit, Michigan scene! In a time of drill and ShittyBoyz, jazz can’t be underrated in the D. We’ve got range. Take it from the gutter to the stars, sippin lean and smoking cigars. Always a party.
