Mic Capes Puts Haters On Ice With Newest Album ‘Cold Blooded Vol. 1’

We were a little slow to pick this one up, but that’s by no means a slight to Portland’s Mic Capes. Sometimes releases slip through our busy fingers, but let it be known Cold Blooded Vol. 1 is sizzling hot after its May release.

This project has an eerie resemblance to Slim Shady’s heyday when he was roaming the streets (metaphorically speaking) with a chainsaw and Jason mask. Raw emotion that’s expressed through satirical scenes of bravado and violence. Many of the beats bring a somber west-coast vibe that is heavy on the piano.

It’s evident from the jump that Mic Capes is hitting his stride like a first-round draft pick running a 40-yard dash. A diverse project that starts with 90’s and early 2000’s West Coast gangster rap tones and eases off the pedal just a bit to feed you with a couple of vibey bops about making money.

Without a doubt, the best parts of Cold Blooded Vol. 1 are when Mic is talking his shit and flexing his “I don’t give a fuck” confidence over hard-hitting beats. No Mic Capes project is complete without plenty of “Northside” references, and you’ll find them in spades. This project demands a place on your next workout playlist.
