Michaelson At Long Last Premiers His Official Debut Single “100 Grand” Featuring Laza And Ellis Prescott

It’s finally time; The Residency alum Brandon Michael Christie aka Michaelson has put his highly-anticipated debut single “100 Grand” out into the world. The song features popular Seattle artists (and siblings) Laza and Ellis Prescott. Just in time for Spring, it will put a welcomed pep in your step during these trying times for artists and performers with the coronavirus.

Spacy piano chords, upbeat tempos, and catchy melodic riffs swirl around you on this new and bouncy track. As this is Michaelson’s first official song on all streaming platforms, he’ll presumably be dropping more saucy singles soon.

This track represents a sizable artistic journey for Michaelson, as it came to fruition over a two and a half year process. The initial song was recorded and mixed by popular Seattle producer Jake Crocker, taking a few different forms along the way. Over time the song began to move away from strongly focusing on the rap, and became more driven by juicy autotuned melodies. Once Laza came in and put down her delicate, yet braggadocious verse, it became clear the song hit harder with more singing and less traditional rapping.

“100 Grand” eventually came to completion after another round of recording and mixing with Milo Eubank at Lost Boy Studio. With the production still coming from Sinima Beats, the track found its final form with Marcel Fernandez handling the mastering.

Clocking in just under three minutes, the song has an anthemic quality with its huge, yet almost tropical production. Michaelson comes in on some melodic, yet double-time laden bars before Ellis takes over on the hook. Laza solidifies the bossed-up vibes with her catchy verse that dances casually on the beat. This is the type of cut I’d run up with the windows down during a notorious Seattle summer.

The cover art came together from a concept that Michaelson thought up, but was then executed by a member of his team, Darrah James. The license plate on the double-yellow median in the art undoubtedly echoes the 22-year-old’s intention to put his foot on the gas with his brand. By truly starting off with a bang, it’s safe to assume that he’ll keep feeding us a few singles before dropping a major project. Listen to “100 Grand” below and get familiar with the young rising talent.
