Miriam Waks Releases New Album Titled Tales From a Room

Miriam Waks is a highly talented artist who sings in 17 languages and in a plethora of musical styles. As a result, this New York-based artist has performed all over the world. Her soft voice debuts her first original album titled Tales from a Room. All the songs were written by her and recorded primarily in Nashville. Also, there are very specific inspirations and reasonings behind all her songs. Let’s break down the tracks.

The first track, “Back to the Jungle” is a homage to artists living in New York City.

“This Room” was inspired by Virginia Woolf’s “A Room of One’s Own.”

“Slave to the Song” is an ode to music whose ending features a guest appearance from Tribal Baroque – the avant-garde husband/wife musical duo Lila’Angelique & Thoth (from the Oscar-winning documentary, Thoth).

Another literature-inspired track on the album is the homosexual love ballad “Song for Achilles” (based on Madeleine Miller’s ‘Song of Achilles’) which sees Miriam assume the mythical identity of Achilles’ lover Patroclus.

Furthermore, the politically charged rock anthem “Revolution” speaks to our politically volatile times.

Last but not least, “Hey! Little White Girl” is a humorous jab at her own ‘whiteness’ as well as a celebration of the African-American artists she grew up listening to.

“‘Tales from a Room’ is the first time I have presented a collection of original songs under my own name and I feel it really marks my transition from song-interpreter to songwriter. Each song is a little “tale” and whether drawn from personal experiences or literary/social themes they reflect my passion for storytelling and human connection through music.” – Miriam Waks
