This week, TxE released their newest single from their upcoming album “TxE vs PRTLND”. Tope and Epp each absolutely out did themselves on this track, but I want to go ahead and talk about G_Force’s contribution to what we’ve seen of this project so far. G_Force, (a.k.a. Calvin Valentine), is killing it this year. While his projects in the past have definitely displayed a talented musician, this year I’ve really noticed his sound become specifically his own. This song is a perfect example of that. G_Force took Monarques’ track “Cold Cold Heart” and created from it a fantastic beat that compliments Epp and Tope’s voices and rhymes perfectly. If I’m not mistaken, I believe the concept for the entire “TxE vs PRTLND” album is that the group will be sampling only songs by Portland rock artists. This concept is brilliant, and I’m excited to see it executed by such a talented group of hip hop artists. Possibly my favorite TxE song yet, I encourage all of you to listen to “Cold Heart” and show some love to this group when they release the full album in December.
I have been overwhelmingly impressed by the work TxE has done this year. After you listen to “Cold Heart”, be sure to check out everything these guys have done, including, “A Different Animal”, G_Force’s remix of Radiation City’s “Animals In The Median” album, Tope’s “Trouble Man” EP, and Epp’s debut solo releases, “Chrome Plated Chronicles” and “Suicide Doors”.
