Nicki Minaj Drops Her Highly Anticipated Album Queen

Check Out Nicki Minaj's "Queen", Her Brand New Album

Nicki Minaj has just released her fourth studio album, Queen, on Young Money Records. The new LP is her first official album since 2014’s, The Pinkprint. Prior to the release of the new project, Nicki had talked about wanting to get back to rapping on this release. Just one listen of this new album and it’s evident that she did just that. The 19 track release showcases Nicki Minaj at her boastful best letting her fans and artists know exactly where she sits in the hip-hop hierarchy.

The album starts with the track, ‘Ganja Burns’. A track with a strong Caribbean vibe. The cut features Nicki singing on the hook with a smooth, slow style that sets the perfect tone for this track. From verse to verse Nicki is in vintage form sitting atop her throne.

The next track on the album is, ‘Majesty’, another affirmation of her status amongst her peers. This time around she opted to bring a friend along for the ride in Eminem, On the third verse, Eminem spits one of his most memorable verses in recent memory. Playing the role of her husband, Slim Shady lets everyone know you don’t want to become their royal subject.

Finally, we get to one of the standout’s on the entire project, ‘Barbie Dreams’. A reimagining of the Notorious B.I.G. classic, ‘Just Playing’. Throughout the nearly five minute song, Nicki Minaj spins an imaginary tale where she’s having sex with a who’s who of industry heavyweights. Everyone from Dave East to Dj Khaled gets named dropped. In the song, she also alludes to Meek Mill still siding in her DM’s and her having to duck him.

Fast forward to ‘Hard White’ and you have one of the hardest, grittiest records on the project. This track is littered with shots at Cardi B. If there was any veil here, it was see-through thin.

The next stretch of songs includes: ‘Bed’, ‘Thought I Knew You’, ‘Chun Swae’ and ‘Chun-Li’. All records that definitely will garner serious spins on the radio and in the club. Features from Ariana Grande, The Weeknd and Swae Lee also help to broaden the appeal of these bangers.

‘Come See About Me’ is one of the more introspective records on the LP. For this song, Nicki laments over an ex-lover who she still thinks about. Hoping he also thinks about her. The whole time she’s hoping he’ll check in on her to see how she’s doing. One can only guess who she’s talking about here, but given the lyrics from ‘Barbie Dreams’ we can rule out Meek Mill.

One of my favorite tracks on the entire project is the New York heater, ‘Coco Chanel’ featuring Foxy Brown. The choice to have Foxy on the record was perfect. Miss Brown proves she is an amazing lyricist on this one. The dancehall infused production lends itself perfectly to these two emcees. Something tells me this record will be playing on the New York City streets for a long time.

Overall, this is one of my favorite projects from the already legendary rapper. It’s some of her strongest work in years and further cements her legacy as one of the greatest to ever touch a mic. Do yourself a favor and have yourself a seat in the queen’s court. All hail Queen Nicki!
