PNW Rising 2024 Week 1 List Featuring New Music

28AV “Peaceful Warrior”

This Central District native raps straight from the heart about his hard upbringings and how this has kept him humble throughout his career. 28AV has stayed reslilient through adversity but also doesn’t lose sight of what’s important and what really matters in life. Backed with expressive vocal runs and classical strings infused with urban percussion, “Peaceful Warrior” is emotional and speaks real truth.

Xavier Weeks “YOU EVER??”

Sped up, high pitched vocals intermingle with Weeks’ melodic flow in this track about realizing when it’s time to move on from something that’s already been over. Overall, there seems to be a bittersweet kind of tone to “YOU EVER??” because this was not the ideal ending to a relationship. Like the true artist he is though, Xavier Weeks will keep on keeping on and using the experience in his music.

Mafi D – “ILWYL”

In case you were wondering, the song stands for “I like what you like,” and it’s a sensual bop about devotion. The bass stays consistent and catchy throughout with some harmonies sprinkled in to add some finesse. Also, the chorus has that clean and simple drawing power that’ll ensure you start nodding along to the words.

Laza “Baggage Claim”

Sexy strings reflecting perfectly with Laza’s voice immediately hypnotize you in “Baggage Claim.” It’s short and sweet, but you’ll wanna run this one again because there’s something about it that is just blissful. Not to mention, while this is a very delicate sounding song, Laza still manages to go hard on the wordplay.

TrussOne “Now you know”

Another perfect tune for relaxation, “Now you know” beings with acoustic guitar and some real funky grooves that almost make you feel like just melting in the couch for the rest of the day. With no lyrics, there’s just this fluid humming throughout that also make you feel that much more chill. Essentially, this is indica in a song.

Jden Ray “michael penix”

Jden Ray puts out some straight fire in this lyric video for “michael penix” with his cadence dropping so effortlessly. This Washington native gives multiple shout outs to his roots, the most obvious one being UW quarterback who’s headed for the national championship, Michael Penix. For those that appreciate major Washington love and pride, give Jden Ray a listen.

Anthony Danza “Joog Gods”

From the music video to the instrumentals, Anthony Danza sets himself apart from the usual hip-hop style. With bright vivid colors, Danza’s music video is instantly eye catching with wild street racing shots that’ll also be sure to catch your attention. The delicate chimes contrast so well as this rapper goes in with his lyricism, and the combination slaps.

Bocha “Feel Me”

Giving a unique delivery, Bocha appears to stumble through his bars in the music video when in actuality he’s popping off brilliantly. While making direct eye contact at the camera, you get a sense of intimacy with his storytelling that forces you to pay attention. That with his quick rhythm makes Botha’s performance unforgettable.

Kid Cambo “Rockstar Shining”

A lit combination of classic hip-hop sounds with melodious harmonies, “Rockstar Shining” really shows Kid Cambo’s range of talents. The lyrics themselves also embody said range as Kid Cambo directly addresses his mission to always be evolving and leveling up. As he scales up, we’re sure he’s going keep coming out with more bangers better than the last.

Swiggle Mandela “Gatekeeper (feat. Northside Tego, Angel & Marshall Hugh)”

All in all, this multi-artist collaboration is such a groove with multiple styles and perspectives coming together without clashing. The balance and the synergy with so many artists in one track truly makes for a very memorable piece. Additionally, the cover art for this release is straight up beautiful.
