What It’s Like On Tour With Oliver Tree: An Exclusive Interview With Casey Mattson

Between spending the day in VIP and getting a chance to watch Knife Party while on stage, Saturday at Ultra Miami was eventful. However, even after all of that, my biggest takeaway from that day, was that I thought I had a potential interview set up for the next day with singer-songwriter, Oliver Tree.

Ultimately, I secured an equally insightful interview from Tree’s high school friend turned bandmate, Casey Mattson, who performs closely with Oliver around the world.

Casey Mattson is a chill guy with a lot of talent. The bandmate and close friend of Oliver Tree is not only a singer-songwriter and producer, but he plays the keys and guitar in Tree’s performances. He currently lives in California, but frequently performs all over the United States. His own music that he has released, including songs like, “idontknowman,” “Playboy,” and “Nothing Compares 2 U,” features an alternative sound.

“It’s important to be self-fulfilled and realize that what you have is a gift, whether it’s doing a show for five kids or playing for your mom and little brother.”

RMR x Casey Mattson Exclusive Interview

RMR: Where has been your favorite place to perform?

Casey Mattson: We’ve been on tour in a lot of places. Last week we did Boston, that was dope. We’ve been to Atlanta, that was cool because we brought out Andy Milinokis. In Cleveland, we brought out Logan Paul.

RMR: How did you connect with Andy Milinokis?

Casey: Basically, Oliver set it up, and I met him there. I used to watch his show and have been a fan forever, so it was an epic moment.

RMR: What do you like most about performing?

Casey: I’m happy. Doing music is a blessing; to record, produce, and perform around the world is like living the dream.

RMR: What makes you feel like “I made it.”

Casey: It’s within yourself. I believe you can achieve any level of success by setting goals and evaluating where you’re at and finding something bigger. But I’m still happy where I’m at even though there’s always more there to do. It’s important to be self-fulfilled and realize that what you have is a gift, whether it’s doing a show for five kids or playing for your mom and little brother.

RMR: I know Oliver Tree wants to play in Antarctica, is that a similar want for you as well?

Casey: I would definitely love to play in Antarctica as well. We’ve done a lot of research on the underground geothermal activity there. Reportedly, there’s a lot of plant life. There are so many more interesting things about it, so yeah I’d be down to go.

RMR: Didn’t you say earlier that you don’t smoke weed anymore?

Casey: I smoke CBD, but I cut down on the weed for my own mental health. I used to smoke a lot when I was younger, but now I believe in having a healthier relationship with it.

RMR: What do you like about CBD?

Casey: I smoke CBD because it really brought my anxiety down and didn’t make me paranoid.
