Orange Photonics New LightLab “High Sensitivity” Device Is The Future Of Portable Cannabis Testing

Regulation has always been a hot topic in the cannabis industry, and it doesn’t look like that’s changing anytime soon. In fact, it seems like we are at a crossroads. Lab fraud is a widespread issue plaguing the cannabis community on all levels, and the absence of quality control and enforcement only feeds the fire. Facilities across the country have been fined (or worse, shut down) for inflating THC potency levels, passing moldy cannabis as “safe, and even faking tests all together. In addition to creating an insane amount of dirty data to sift through, these phony results have serious financial impacts on cannabis brands, consumers, and the industry as a whole.

The current infrastructure of the legal cannabis market has made it practically impossible to hold third-party labs to consistent standards across the board… that is until now. Today, brands of all sizes can perform these same quality checks in-house (or on the road) with LightLab, a portable, purpose-built HPLC, designed by the masterminds at Orange Photonics.

About Orange Photonics

Since 2015, Orange Photonics has been on a mission to take the guesswork out of testing by making canna-tech affordable and accessible for all. With the help of their team, cannabis brands across the country have gained access to important analytics on-the-go with Orange Photonics’ proprietary LightLab technology. The data gained from this portable lab enables brands to streamline quality controls by performing proactive tests for the same potency markers as major labs, prior to having to pay high regulatory testing fees.

The company’s goal from the beginning has been to even the playing field by democratizing science, that has historically been reserved for big labs, in a compact and portable device. For Orange Photonics, “democratizing science” means making the tools and data readily available for members of the cannabis community – regardless of their skill level, technical understanding, or overall scientific expertise. Gaining access to powerful analytic instruments, like LightLab, allows smaller brands to fine-tune in-house processes, while spot checking for potency and potential issues before any product needs to be sent out to third-party labs.

This way, instead of paying (and waiting) for testing results that may or may not be consistent, growers are able to take a more proactive approach to operational controls. By utilizing Orange Photonics’ technology at key testing touch points in the supply chain – from pheno-hunting genetics to cultivation, processing, research and development (R&D), formulation, and more – cultivators are able to save time, effort, energy, and money. All while perfecting overall production quality in the process.

Orange Photonics offers two affordable versions of their LightLab device for canna-brands to choose from: the original “Cannabis Analyzer” which can test anything but edibles, and the newly released “LightLab 3 High Sensitivity” that includes robust capabilities to handle testing on all cannabis products (edibles included). Every device comes fully calibrated, with all the accessories needed to run a sample and life-long support from the Orange Photonics team.

The LightLab 3 “High Sensitivity” From Orange Photonics

Orange Photonics’ new LightLab 3 “High Sensitivity” Cannabis Analyzer is a portable, liquid chromatography-based cannabis analyzer that offers rapid testing results on cannabis plants and products. This affordable High-performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) analyzer is capable of quickly and accurately determining the content of nineteen different cannabinoids and semi-quantitative terpenes – with ultra-low detection limits (down to 1.7ppm).

Built in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) guide the operator through sample preparation, supporting consistency between operators and test runs. Tests take roughly 10-15 minutes to run and can be done almost anywhere. Once completed, the traceable test results are shared from LightLab through COAs (Certificates of Analysis) via email or QR codes.

This LightLab High Sensitivity device adds a level of transparency to cannabis testing that has been missing in the market until now. Utilizing this technology allows brands to stay ahead of the curve (and competition) by producing consistent high-quality yields, streamline internal processes, and supporting operational excellence – ultimately increasing overall brand profitability and overall market share. By using this portable testing device producers gain access to real-time data that is necessary for a proactive approach to cultivation, processing/production, and overall R&D.

The versatility of this machine is seemingly endless… and I mean that. To date, the Orange Photonics team hasn’t come across any canna-product they couldn’t test. From nano emulsions, low-dose beverages, hemp-derived edibles, proprietary formulas and more, this instrument has a truly tremendous (and highly sensitive) range for results. As an added benefit, when you purchase this newly upgraded system, you will also receive a sample shaker, scale, grinder, and a complimentary Edibles Test Kit. Additional module options are also available to help customize the device to meet your needs.

Putting LightLab To The Test

These little orange boxes pack a technological punch and are making a splash across the country with a growing group of producers working to streamline their processes through a quality-focused lens. To ensure they are providing the best product possible, Orange Photonics has subjected their device to multiple third-party proficiency tests, such as NIST’s CannaQAP, and laboratory comparisons. Publicly available data shows an impressive correlation in results, including reproducibility and repeatability.

This proven performance solidifies LightLab’s position as the go-to choice for on-site quality control and compliance testing with cannabis companies across the world, as well as enforcement and regulatory facilities at local, state and federal levels. In fact, the US Customs Border & Protection Agency has officially selected the LightLab 3 Cannabis Analyzer from Orange Photonics for all their field-deployable cannabis testing needs.

As the cannabis industry continues to progress towards federal legality, Orange Photonics is here to help brands make the most out of the operations with the promise of consistent and repeatable testing – and the tech to back it up.

LightLab vs The Competition

When compared to other available testing methods on the market, Orange Photonics reigns supreme offering several key benefits for users. First and foremost, LightLab offers a single method and instrument for comprehensive cannabis testing – including cannabinoid potency, minor cannabinoid profiling, terpene profiling, hemp compliance and additional analytic options – that currently require separate fees and tests through third-party labs. Luckily for business today, Orange Photonics’ LightLab comes with everything you need to perform the necessary extractions for these tests anywhere.

Instead of taking a reactive approach to cannabis regulations, brands have begun utilizing LightLab to improve operations, launch new products, and ultimately increase profitability to scale business as legalization spreads. Prior to using LightLab, brands needed to fork out money to establish basic data about their plants/products. By investing in this device you can take the guesswork of what you’re sending out while also streamlining the sample testing process by almost eliminating the need for small batch R&D samples – saving money and overall production time.
