Portland Hip-hop is on Fire | New Music

Photo is by the talented “Versace” Martin Van Londen

Man, what a last few weeks for Portland hip-hop. All of these artist deserve their own feature but this amount much dope music from one spot had to be put in the same place to glorify the bridge city as a whole. The Northwest has long been slept on and Portland way more so than Seattle. Living in the PDX Back in 08/09, I came to find Luck-One, Illmaculate, Mikey Vegaz, and the OG Cool Nutz to be the names to be tossed round a lot. I had the opportunity to meet a lot of the up and comers from the area but the level of music coming from PDX is on a whole other level right now. The production and the creativity are all sounding so proper right now. I really wish we had a bigger platform to get this music to the rest of the country.

This is by far the most dope packed into any blog post on the internet right now and it is all Portland hip-hop, get familiar!

Cool Nutz – #Bruh

The newest project from Portland hip-hop’s Godfather, Cool Nutz, is nothing short of pure dope. Cool Nutz recruits some Cali legends in Glasses Malone and Mistah F.A.B. while remaining true to his mission of putting Portland on and grabbing some of the city’s hottest producers and artists. This project is real dope man, I can not stress that enough. Dude is not getting content in this stage in his career, there is some hunger left in the boss!

Cassow – 000

Cassow recently moved to Los Angeles and has been relatively quiet since the move. He really gained some exposure over the past few years and his SoundCloud plays can attest to that. This project is a chilled back project but is a perfect sound for Cassow and the drums and energy in Cassow’s flow will not bore!

Tre Redeau – Kool-Aid Stand Mixtape

Tre Redeau is really new to my radar, I recently just got exposed to his music through his FNA and Anthem music videos. This guy is serious, the mix tape is currently playing in our office and I haven’t found a weak spot yet.

Mic Capes – Concrete Dreams (The Singles)

Mic Capes music was introduced to me a few months ago with his single Razor Tongue and I probably played that record back to back to back. Razor Tongue and Jansport are clear standouts but Mic Capes has good music and a message sitting in those bars, don’t just let this music play…listen!!

Pyrex Drex – Blackout

Pyrex has been steadily sending us dope for a solid year plus. His last project RFx2 got some plays in the office and I always look forward to opening his submissions.

Dame Dolla (Damian Lillard) – Solider In The Game

Another hooper trying to be a rapper…but wait…Dame can actually spit?! No stranger to the hip-hop world with this 4 Bar Friday series, Damian also teased the world with a surprising freestyle on Sway In The Morning. This time around he releases a full track that does not disappoint! His flow and rhyme skills are nice, and the message in the music is all the way there. Be on the look out for more from Dame Dollar, an NBA player that CAN spit!

Dre C – The Cruis ft. Manny Monday prod by Stewart Villain

and

Dre C – Because You Know ft. Epp prod. by Trox

Dre C links up with elite Portland producers and fellow Rose City spittas for his two new releases in The Cruise and Because You Know. Just press play.

I also can’t mention this much Portland music without a special big ups to WeOutHere.net for being the torch bearer for the Portland hip-hop scene. Mac Smiff is a fantastic writer and a true ambassador of the culture for our brothers south of us on I-5.
