While concerts have been back since last year in some areas, Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheater just recently opened back up on April 22nd. Last week Red Rocks began offering COVID-19 vaccinations at select concerts. On May 14th, the first batch of vaccinations were offered at Diplo and SIDEPIECE’s concert.
While Red Rocks Amphitheater has restricted capacity leaving ample space to spread out, concert goers seem to huddle close and rock out just as they used to prior to the pandemic. Posing safety hazards and risking the ability to host shows, Red Rocks came up with a win-win solution for everyone involved.
They have teamed up with the Denver Department of Public Health and Environment to provide 100 doses of the Johnson&Johnson vaccine at each participating show. Each one-time dose will be administered by a health official. All attendees 18 and up are eligible to receive a vaccine. This encourages younger generations to get vaccinated while giving easy access.
“The entertainment industry only works when people are able to gather together, and a healthy audience is vitally important at Red Rocks,” said spokesperson Brian Kitts in a statement.
“We’re making it easy to come to a concert and leave knowing that our fans have protected themselves, their families and their fellow music lovers.”
Those that take advantage of this offer will receive a Red Rocks eightieth-anniversary T-shirt and a concessions voucher.
The primary promoters and renters of this venue, AEG and Live Nation, back these efforts and encourage fans to participate.
Red Rocks restricted capacity to only 2,500 when they first re-opened.
Now their website states, “The seating capacity limit for Red Rocks has increased to 6,300 fans. We will resume full capacity starting June 21, 2021. At this time, face coverings will continue to be required inside the Visitor Center, Trading Post and restrooms.”
