Seattle artist Tavion just dropped his latest effort Damage Control. The packed, yet, brief full-length 10 track project is well worth tossing on your Spotify or Apple playlist.
Damage Control dances around various genres and tones within the hip-hop realm. The project starts and finishes with my two favorite records. “Possible” breaks in the project with a hard-hitting beat and even-paced bars that meet at a great place sonically.
It’s quickly followed by the aggressive “GTA” before breaking into a southern moving “Again” that has a touch of soul to it which moves right into the next song on the tracklist. On “Chess,” Tavion takes a beat that Slum Village would vibe out for hours to. The rest of the project meticulously moves between a few different feels while never sacrificing knocking drums.
The biggest stand out to me both beat wise and commercial appeal is the albums final opus. “Exodus” finds a beat that 40 From Up North would be proud of and Tavion really settles into his tone and bag at the same time. This a super easy-listening vibe and a great way to cap off the project.
Tavion is a member of one of Seattle’s most under the radar talent groups, One Above Below None (OABN). The hip-hop collective comprising of Devante “Tavion” Cash, Mundy, and Rob Reeves.
