Self Provoked The MC tells a tale of how money can ruin lives in “Get Rich”. The music video was shot and directed by Nick Rodriguez. The video demonstrates the life of a beggar, a baddie, drug dealer, and artist. All who are struggling with their own vices in order to gain the paper. First, we hear of the beggar who earned his way to possess a gun to end his life. Second, a self-sufficient girl who leaves her day job to sell her body to earn money to feed her family. Third, a coke dealer who made living off the cocaine until people around him started using him for the product. Lastly, an artist who started rapping for the love it and reinvented himself after the disapproval of his parents.

What makes the video so appealing is the suspense of the dramatic piano in the background. Following the heavy 808 that firmly creates the sense of chaos within the chorus. The beat was produced by Ninedy2. In all this mess, Self Provoked does some self-reflection as well asking “How much money do you bring in kid?” A question of morality. Is it worth putting yourself at risk to earn quick money? Certainly, many of us have crossed a point where we gamble our time to in order meet our goals. Exposing realities around him and engaging the listener to question trough each character’s destiny.
The cinematography provides the elements needed to visualize short clips of despair, altercation, and solution. Close-ups, blurred out images and shakey still shots mask the storytellers face. Self Provoked has come a long ways from skating behind pickup trucks and tagging walls. Developing internal conflicts within his music to scrutinize touchy subjects within hip-hop.
