Major news broke out headlining the six-time NBA all-star Shawn Kemp being arrested in connection to a drive-by shooting. He fired shots in self-defense while trying to retrieve stolen assets. Kemp was detained briefly Wednesday March 8, then released with no charges.
Kemp’s attorney, W. Scott, Boatman, stated Friday afternoon that the matter was resolved in self-defense. The former Seattle SuperSonics star was a victim of crime himself when his car was broken into Tuesday night. Thieves made off with a cell phone and other personal property.
The next day Kemp allegedly tracked his stolen cell phone to the Tacoma Mall. He drove himself to the location and confronted two individuals in a vehicle. They fired on Kemp after a short exchange of words in the parking lot. He returned shots in self-defense before they fled.
Officers had no issues on scene when they arrived and located Shawn. They retrieved his firearm and brought him in for questioning before closing the case. Videos of the incident went viral on YouTube this week which show Kemp standing in the Tacoma Mall parking lot.
Who Is Shawn Kemp?
Kemp is an NBA legend who played fourteen pro seasons with four stand up teams between 1989 and 2003. The legendary power forward helped lift Seattle to the 1996 NBA finals. He shared mad respect with the SuperSonics for eight seasons before spreading his skills to the Cavaliers, Trailblazers, and Orlando Magic.
Fast forward seventeen years and Shawn Kemp’s Cannabis opens on October 30, 2020. To date, he has two dispensary locations in Seattle. His previous legacy in the NBA might span decades but doesn’t supersede his overall existence. Kemp is cut from a fabric meant to drape only a few of the realest.
To this day he is one of the only players to go pro without playing college ball. He adapted quickly from high school gymnasiums to playing real life NBA jam when he was still a teenager and will forever be a local legend in Seattle.
