Seven Spooky Strains To Accompany Your Halloween Movie Marathon

Spooky season is here, and with that, scary movie season. This gives us the perfect opportunity to suggest some cannabis strains fit for a Halloween film marathon. As I was getting started on this piece, I wasn’t sure if I should go the route of strains to ease your spook, or strains to really make you feel it. I decided to go with the latter.

It’s also a pretty simple task to find an article suggesting anxiety-relieving cannabis strains for your evenings. So, I am going to help you out this Halloween with strains that pair perfectly with skin-crawling, bone-chilling horror films that might be making their way to your TV screen this October.

If you’re watching a proper scary film this Halloween, I am going to assume you want to be scared. I’m not going to be tip-toeing around with “scary” movies that don’t actually spook you. So, strap in. I’ll be laying out some perfect Halloween cannabis strains to go with some of my favorite scary movies. Now let’s indulge…

Chocolate Chunk – Trick r’ Treat

We’ll start things out with a cannabis pairing fit for the Halloween season. When you think Halloween, I am sure candy is one of the first things to come to mind. In the world of cannabis, we’re well-versed in sweet treats as well.

Only naturally, I have selected the Chocolate Chunk Indica strain to pair nicely with the film Trick r’ Treat, the 2007 Halloween horror classic. Chocolate Chunk is a descendent of Afghani Indica parents. This musky and earthy heavy-hitting pure Indica might ease your body and mind as interwoven stories of ghosts and goblins try and get under your skin.

Mother’s Tongue – Mama

You’ll want to stay alert for this one. The potentially euphoric and clear-headed effects of the Mother’s Tongue Sativa strain pair delightfully with this 2013 horror film. The Afoogey X Watermelon X Jesus OG cross may help ease your anxiety as you’re taken on a thrilling supernatural visual trip.

Set in a decaying cabin in the woods, this suspenseful flic follows children who had been found after five years missing. But there is something not right. So, let the Mother’s Tongue strain tuck you into this Halloween film as you find out what’s been tucking in the two little girls in Mama. Proceed with caution and a bowl of this mellow Sativa.

Ghost OG- Poltergeist

Okay, if you haven’t seen Poltergeist, I urge you to finish reading this article and get to it. Well, maybe swing by your local dispensary and pick up an eighth of Ghost OG flower first. The classic 1982 horror movie is not one to take lightly. This eerie motion picture follows two young children and their hair-raising contact with spirits through their family television.

The Indica-dominant Ghost OG cannabis strain is fit for the frightening film with its Afghani and OG Kush genetics. This Halloween strain is known for its potentially relaxing and happy effects, which might help soothe your spook-induced anxiety.

If you want to go with an even more fitting Halloween strain to go with your Poltergeist viewing experience, the Poltergeist strain is another appropriate option. This ET OG X Afghan Ghost cross is a potent Indica-leaning hybrid strain, known for its possible warming and relaxing buzz. I felt this combination was a bit too obvious, but it’s just too perfect to not suggest.

If you liked this Halloween strain suggestion, I suggest toking on some Ghost OG or Poltergeist kush and diving deeper into the filming of this movie. The set of Poltergeist is said to be cursed.

Chernobyl- The Chernobyl Diaries

This 2012 American disaster horror film won’t leave you feeling very settled, to say the least. The Halloween-appropriate mysterious thriller, Chernobyl Diaries, follows six tourists through the nuclear Chernobyl power plant site. As you can probably imagine, if you haven’t seen this one yet, things don’t go as planned. The group comes to the realization that they are not alone but instead accompanied by former Chernobyl workers. Directed by the same director as Paranormal Activity, Chernobyl Diaries follows that same first-person handheld camera lens. I don’t know about you, but this spooky-season thriller makes me jump.

Luckily, the Sativa-dominant strain Chernobyl probably won’t accelerate the anxiety. Instead, this Trainwreck X Trinity cross, pollinated with Jack The Ripper, will likely aid in a euphoric and stress-free viewing experience. In my experience, this Sativa-leaning hybrid may take the edge off, while also leaving you energized and alert.

The potent lemony and citrusy flavor profile also provides a fresh cannabis taste to go along with your Halloween chocolate stash binge. Chernobyl really is an ideal Halloween movie marathon strain. You definitely won’t be falling asleep halfway through this one, unless it’s from a Halloween candy coma.

Pennywise – IT

Whether you’re watching the 1986 classic, or the 2019 rendition of this thriller, you’ll likely find yourself jumping out of your seat. Pennywise the clown is waiting in the gutters of a small town in Maine with all of your biggest fears. He picks on local children, pulling them along a terrifying, psychological trip. Since this classic Halloween film is sure to raise those hairs on the back of your neck, I am suggesting a very fitting CBD cannabis strain. As you could have maybe guessed, Pennywise is the winning strain for the classic Halloween-season flic, It.

Pennywise is that ideal CBD Indica-dominant strain for kicking back and watching a movie. If you’re one to get extra spooked, CBD cannabis strains might be your new favorite horror movie companion. This Jack The Ripper X Harlequin cross is known for it’s potentially euphoric and body-soothing effects. Pennywise tends to give that Indica effect, with CBD Sativa genetics. With a sweet and woody flavor profile, Pennywise is the perfect strain to pair with a Halloween film. You won’t even need the treats with this tasty CBD strain, just focus on trying not to scream.

Harlequin- The Joker

If you’re not really into scary movies, but want something a little action-packed that might get your blood pumping, this could be the winning combo. The Joker, the 2019 psychological thriller, is a perfect film for Halloween. If Pennywise is a little too much for you, this failed clown might be a good middle ground. Unless your biggest fear is raging clown-fueled violence in Gotham City.

It seems only suitable that we pair this Harlequin CBD strain with the action of Harlequin in The Joker. This Halloween-inspired strain also might help target areas of mental health like stress, PTSD, and anxiety. With The Joker speaking on the extremes of mental health throughout the psychological thriller, this CBD strain really fits quite well. I suggest trying it out for yourself if you get the chance.

And The List Goes On

This list could honestly go on and on, with the number of thriller-inspired strains available these days. And if you’re like me, scary movies wouldn’t quite be the same without some quality flower. Why not have a little fun with it and intentionally pair your strain with your Halloween flic.

Even if scary movies aren’t really your thing, those light-hearted Halloween films still have some perfect cannabis strain pairs. Watching Hocus Pocus? Try out the Sativa strain Witches Weed. Feeling nostalgic and want to turn on the lovely Halloweentown? Maybe pick up an eighth of Indica-dominant Monster Cookies flower. Whatever you’re looking for out of your Halloween movie marathon, there is a weed strain to match.
