Learn More About Sustainably Grown Cannabis In Washington

Here Are Some Of Washington's Sustainable Cannabis Brands

It is important to learn more about the brands in Washington state that produce sustainably grown cannabis. All of them plan their growing methods around leaving less of a carbon footprint and many of these brands are Clean Green Certified, which is the closest thing a cannabis crop can be to “organic.” The term organic is controlled by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA,) and they don’t recognize cannabis as an agriculture crop because of its schedule 1 designation under the Controlled Substance Act.

Legally, cannabis cannot be “organic.”

To become Clean Green Certified, you have to have “cultivated using sustainable, natural and organically based practices.” A crop has to go through a rigorous process to become Clean Green Certified: seed or clone selection, soil, nutrients, pesticides, mold treatments, dust control, and source of electricity, to methods of harvesting. There is also a Clean Green Certification for processing licensee’s as well.

Cannabis brands don’t have to be Clean Green Certified to have sustainable business practices. Some of them successfully developed their own sustainability plans designed around their growing methods and product packaging.

Gabriel Cannabis

Gabriel’s grow rooms are completely sealed and use close-looped systems to recycle air and water. Their cooling systems collects the condensation emitted by the plants. The water is filtered, the PH level balanced, and it is reused to re-water the plants. Their packaging is completely recyclable and the lids are made from sustainably grown bamboo.

Burnwell

Burnwell’s sustainability practices center around electricity and soil use. Their facilities are built to harness the sun to cut down on electricity used by lights. Burnwell also uses live soil combined with the environmental control of an indoor grow facility to cut down on their carbon footprint. All of their packagings is glass and corks, making them 100 percent recyclable.
