ReauBeau Talks About American Fans & His New Single (SXSW Interview)

ReauBeau Talks About American Fans & His New Single (SXSW Interview)

After flying in from the Netherlands to perform at SXSW, Dutch future bass artist Rob Jager AKA ReauBeau has nothing but great things to write home about. During my third night in town, Run The Trap put together a booming showcase in the heart of downtown Austin.

Edwin’s on 6th street became a hotbed of next-level beats and tasteful turntablism where ReauBeau hit the stage Wednesday night. The intimate setting of Edwin’s easily filled up with a bevy of heads bopping to all the booms, baps, and crazy bass. The vibes went on late into the night and literally no one could complain.

If you’re a fan of dubstep, you may already know the dude’s work under his other alias “Robokop.” ReauBeau is his more recent project that’s meant to blend future bass and trap, with a touch of that spacey euphoric element on top. With this project his intent is to essentially paint a canvas with his music that urges people to feel when they hear it.

This was his first time performing at SXSW as ReauBeau so the experience was surely new in some ways. I had a moment to chat with ReauBeau about his SXSW experience, as well as what he’s got going on the rest of this year.

ReauBeau Exclusive SXSW Interview

Have you performed in Texas many times before (SXSW included)?

Rob said that he hasn’t made it out to Texas many times other than to attend SXSW. The fact that several artists were only in town for the festival proves the cultural significance of it. Any festival that brings in such a wide reach of people from around the globe is worth looking into, in my humble opinion.

Is there a difference in energy between the crowds in America vs. Europe during your performances?

The crowds in the US are more privy to the underground EDM scene, according to Rob. He said “in the United States people really know your music and are a lot more engaged than in Europe!” He went on to conclude that “crowds in Europe really differ per country, even per city, so it’s hard to pin down what type of crowd there is.”

What’s your favorite place to grab a quick bite to eat when you’re in Downtown Austin during SXSW?

Rob said there’s a pizza place on 6th street that he frequents when he’s in town. He also made note that one of his fellow Run The Trap performers, Holly, is always extremely excited about it. After my time spent in Austin, my best guess is they’re talking about Roppolo’s.

Did you see any other performances between your sets?

“Yes I did! I went to this one show at Empire which has a beat battle going. It was very cool to see and quite inspiring as well, seeing as the crowd loved it.”

Do you plan to make any big releases in 2019? Like an EP or full-length?

Rob said ReauBeau will be quite busy this year. He recently put out a new single on TNC Recordings that veritably slaps. He also said there will be “an EP on Circus Records, as well as a few singles on Embassy Of Music.” Listen to the new single with Loris Cimino, “Louder,” featuring Twan Ray via Trap Nation below.

Did you come down to Texas just to play SXSW or are you touring at all right now? Did you have any other shows in the states before you flew back to the Netherlands?

“I came to SXSW just for this show, so it was really special.” Rob went on to add that “I have played other shows in the US before but never as ReauBeau.” He then spoke on the networking opportunities at the festival saying that “I also did a lot of networking and meeting with people from the industry while I was at SXSW, really enjoyed it!” Read more about the networking opportunities at SXSW for artists here.

Was the venue you played at more intimate or smaller in capacity to venues you usually play? Do you think that’s part of the aesthetic of the festival?

Rob said “it was definitely an intimate setting.” He went on to say that “it was in an actual sports bar, and there was a BBQ outside. I guess it can’t be any more American than that!” This was an atmosphere I found around Austin a lot as well. Fresh BBQ and cold ones you can crack are always close at-hand on 6th street.
