South Park’s “Tegridy Farms” is Becoming a Real Cannabis Brand as Trey Parker and Matt Stone Explore New Ventures

You may have noticed that the show South Park recently received approval for seven more seasons. This potentially comes as a shock, as the last few seasons almost seemed dedicated to getting the show cancelled. Most episodes include  “#CANCELSOUTHPARK” watermarked in the credits. As it turns out, the creators of the show are using the $900 million from this deal on several new ventures, one being a real-life rendition of Tegridy Farms.

In South Park, Tegridy Farms is a weed farm run by Randy Marsh, main character Stan Marsh’s father. The name “Tegridy” is a play on the word “integrity” with a southern drawl. The concept is a running theme/joke for the Marsh family when it comes to business conduction. Randy becomes obsessed with his “‘tegridy” when growing and selling his “Tegridy Weed.”

Randy’s determination for “real” quality becomes overshadowed in episodes where he commits criminal acts to make a profit. Occasionally he complies with corrupt regimes and corporations; including an episode taken down in China, humorously titled “Band In China” (S23 Ep2).

Although it was originally a theme/analogy for American capitalism, Tegridy Farms may become a real cannabis company in the foreseeable future.

As far as marketing strategies go, naming a weed brand Tegridy Farms might upset a few people, but probably not enough for it to matter. For one, there’s no way a real-life Tegridy Weed brand would look anything like the exaggerated, oftentimes offensive Tegridy Farms run by Randy and Towelie in the show South Park. The worst thing this can be is a joke blown out of proportions, but that’s not likely either.

After all, if Trey Parker and Matt Stone end up creating a cannabis company, there’s no way they could get away with not making it affordable, honest or even charitable in certain aspects. As comedians constantly roasting billionaires like Bezos and Zuckerberg for being like “evil villains,” doing otherwise would just make them hypocrites. The controversy they stir destines them for attention either way.

Additional Ventures Besides Tegridy Farms

The $900 million MTV Entertainment Studios of ViacomCBS also comes with 14 streamable South Park movies. There’s no doubt about it; Parker and Stone are cashing out hard this decade, some may even say selling out. If it weren’t for the new projects they told Bloomberg about, it’d be hard to say this wasn’t for the money.

“We have a ‘South Park’ 3D video game, release date unknown. We’re doing deep fakes. We have a studio with a dozen people who are deep fake artists. We’re working on a little more of this deep fake movie we’re trying to piece together. We have a horror movie. A musical. I think we’re really for the first time going to bring Tegridy Weed into real life.”

The only predictable part about the deep fake horror musical is the word “musical.” Between that and the 3D video game we’re looking at some fairly outlandish concepts already. How these two plan to accomplish all of this while making episodes and movies of South Park is unknown; though perhaps we shouldn’t underestimate them. Check back as the story develops, since this is surely not the last we will be hearing of this.
