The year of 2019 brought many groundbreaking and interesting releases throughout the entire year. While there were many projects released from well known and established artists, there were also many projects from breakout artists as well. We compiled a list alphabetically highlighting the top hip-hop albums of 2019.

Boogie – Everything For Sale

While his album might have been overshadowed due to dropping it early in the year, it doesn’t take away from the quality and impact of the project. He brought forward insightful songs that had a wide-ranging set of sounds. This album has positioned him well for future projects he will be dropping. 

Cam’Ron – Purple Haze 2

Cam’Ron has been grinding and doing his thing in the game for years, but his latest album Purple Haze 2 stepped things up a notch. This album is probably one of the biggest sleepers on this list, so for those who haven’t heard the album, it’s definitely worth a listen and will make you go straight back to it. 

DaBaby – Kirk

DaBaby has had a huge breakout year, which can largely be contributed to his album KIRK. From a high volume of features to dropping full-length projects, his 2019 couldn’t have been much better.

Denzel Curry – Zuu

Denzel Curry had his biggest year yet, and he’s already had some big ones leading up to this point. His album Zuu embodied the sound he’s been creating over the past few years. With hit songs “Speedboat” and “Ricky” with an impressive set of features, it’s safe to say 2019 was a huge win for him. 

Freddie Gibbs and Madlib – Bandana

Freddie Gibbs has developed consistency with his career, and it’s paying off with the album Bandana that he released with Madlib. They delivered so many bangers and anthems and truly went in on this project. Their latest release demands attention with the other top hip-hop albums of 2019.  

Goldlink – Diaspora

Goldlink is also one of the quieter artists on this list, but it doesn’t take away from his album Diaspora that he dropped earlier this year. One of the most striking components of this project was how experimental and wide-ranging the overall sound and styles were. He also had a solid list of features with Khalid, Pusha T, Tyler The Creator and more. 

The Game – Born 2 Rap

The west coast legend turned up this year, to say the least. After dropping successful singles with “West Side” featuring Dave East and “Stainless” featuring Anderson .Paak, he also released his full-length album Born 2 Rap. With these releases, he truly took things to another level and had an incredible year. 

J. Cole & Dreamville – Revenge Of The Dreamers III

Even though he didn’t drop the follow up to his album KOD this year, he still had one of the top albums of 2019 with Revenge of the Dreamers – a collaborative album lead by J. Cole and put on by fellow Dreamville artists. The album spawned the hit “Middle Child” while having a huge list of features. Everyone did an excellent job adding variety to the album, so it’s a fun listen throughout. 

Jim Jones – El Capo

Jim Jones rolled through and did his thing big time this year with his album El Capo. From his hustle, grind, and messaging; he delivered an album that fully embodied his brand and sound. For those who haven’t had a chance to listen, his project cannot be passed up. 

Eve – Rapsody

Rapsody has been doing her thing in the game for years, developing a large catalog of albums and rising to the top of the hip-hop and R&B genres. Her latest release did not disappoint, as she built on her sound and executed it at an even higher level.

Roddy Ricch – Excuse Me For Being Antisocial

The Compton-based rapper had a breakout year in 2019. He dropped his debut album titled Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial earlier this month, but has also built a successful set of singles, features, and videos. He’s quickly moving up the ranks in hip-hop and is bound to see his career continue to explode. 

Tyler, The Creator – IGOR

His album IGOR showcased the creativity and diversity he’s been known for with his music. While Flower Boy elevated his career massively, IGOR just continued things and has positioned him well at the end of 2019. Given the success of this album, it’s assumed he will have a follow-up sooner than later. 

YBN Cordae – The Lost Boy

YBN Cordae had a huge year with his album The Lost Boy. From catchy hooks to his creative storytelling abilities, his album was one of the most memorable projects of the year. After linking up with artists such as Pusha T, Meek Mill, Chance The Rapper, and more; the sky is the limit for the up and coming artist.
