Topp And Yel Question Their “Sanity” In This Brother/Sister Collab About Pain And Passion

If you’ve been keeping up with the local music scene at all then you’re aware of artists like Macntaj and Lewie signing major deals recently. Well, Topp is another one of those artists that should be on labels’ radars.

Constantly pumping out bangers with his unique vibe, he’s an artist that really makes you sit down and think when you try to describe him. His sister, Yel, is no different. After moving to L.A. her career began to flourish alongside her brothers as a successful solo artist.

Topp, Yel and their brother, Nobi, love to work together whenever given the chance. Who could forget their 2015 classic The Cypher? Their new single Sanity, however, is just a project between Topp and Yel.

Per usual, Topp produced/engineered this track himself in a style that only he could conjure. Sanity features his signature combo of booming bass coming right off the bat, then trickling in other quirky sounds and keys that, when brought together with the right ear, create a rhythmic charm that infects you with an irresistible jig.

Pain And Passion

“Sanity” is an expression of how Topp and Yel felt losing their parents while in pursuit of a dream. Losing their mother in 2015 and father in 2018, Topp and Yel decided dedicate their life to their passion: music. But, the pain from the loss of their parents still weighed heavy on them and their perception on life was changed forever.

“Something like this can cause you to view life in such a way that even the closest people to you won’t understand. It can make you question your own Sanity.”

The music video for “Sanity” reminds you of a Freddy Krueger nightmare mixed with Hopsin’s “Ill Mind 4” music video. A dystopian take on reality with words like “rage” and “chaos” randomly popping up on the screen. Topp and Yel ride that raw emotional roller coaster, going for it all while losing it all at the same time.
