Trappy Gilmore 2 Cements Macntaj Forever As A Town Legend

Trappy Gilmore 2 has arrived in its entirety and was well worth the wait. This project cements Macntaj as a Seattle hip-hop legend. Yes, we get to claim him after spending so much time here, even though he came of age with Florin Meadows Finest in Sacramento. The quality and anticipation behind this project seem almost certain to propel Macntaj to the next level.

Macntaj Is Planning A Takeover Not An Album Release

First you have to understand the level of thought and care that went into this moment. Macntaj has been an artist since before he was Macntaj. He has been making music since 2008 in some form or fashion. Day after day, endlessly spending time to create a brand, sound, and image all without releasing an album as a feature artist.

First there were mixtapes in the early days, that are nowhere to be found today. Then there was an entire studio album that got shelved over timing issues. After that he had his run with Slightly Flagrant and Taane Jr. Finally he broke from Slightly Flagrant with a purposeful intention as he brilliantly saw an opportunity to move genres completely.

In quick order he found himself working with Levitate here in Seattle. That, in turn, led to Bassnectar, Kai Wachi, BTSM, and a dozen other collaborations in the EDM world. One of the songs even made it on ESPN X games, leaving Macntaj feeling the need to diversify yet again.

Having had successfully removed himself from the expectations that came with Slightly Flagrant, Macntaj began dropping solo music for the first time. These singles were strong one offs, a foundation for what was to come. Not long after that came videos that were both high and low budget. Flashy and artistic, the art reflects the man well in this case as that is a quality description of him too.

Planning Pays Dividends

All this work and consistency garnered the attention of a lot of people. This guy has high powered attorney’s, investors, booking agents, and a distro deal through Blocstar. Coupled with a humble business mind? This combination of elements gave Macntaj the platform he had been carefully crafting all these years while keeping himself a relative mystery. That is important to note because his brand control and understanding are his secret weapons for longevity.

The original Trappy Gilmore appears to have been a set up for a series of works. Purposely held back from major DSPs it was only available of Soundcloud and YouTube. It was used essentially to leverage Trappy Gilmore 2, his first official LP, and set the stage for a Trappy Gilmore; Masters Edition.

If all that went into it, it must be great, right? Well, if you ask me, I’d probably say it likely to propel him to XXL Freshman class by 2021. Produced primarily by Ike Watson, this goes all the way in from the first track. You get so many cadences and tones from Macntaj that you almost think he has a feature on some of the songs. However other than “Baby John” featuring Jay Park this is all Tajjy, top to “Dirty Bottoms”.

“Superpowers” and “Killas Don’t Cry” sound the most radio ready. “Ochit Wally” is great and has a video shot by Justin Frick that has been released. The “Ugly Bubba,” “Banana Republic,” and “Baby John” videos are also out. All very different from each other and still all distinctly Macntaj.
