Ever since Road to Ultra: Taiwan was announced in 2014, the lineup has gotten better year by the year. With The Chainsmokers, Martin Garrix, and Zedd being the headlining names in 2017, I was excited to see who they’ll bring this year. When I saw that Ultra Korea got The Chainsmokers, Galantis, Zedd, Axwell Ingrosso, and more to perform from June 8-10, I only hoped that some of the names will be on the flyer for Taiwan as well.
In May, when early bird tickets were on sale, it was still marketed as Road to Ultra, a one-day festival. However, very exciting news came in mid-July. The event is now officially Ultra Taiwan and has been extended into a two-day festival. This marks a very exciting beginning of electronic music and festival culture in Taiwan, which has been growing with the EDM scene in the last few years.
When headliners were announced later that month, I was blown away. I couldn’t believe that they’re getting all these amazing artists out here to Taiwan. With shows always being so expensive in Asia, a two-day ticket being priced for $167/170 USD is a steal. Especially getting the chance to see all these artists play, paying less than $85 a day is worth it.

MUST SEE ACTS AT ULTRA TAIWAN:
Alan Walker
Alan Walker is one of the youngest stars in the EDM world. He popped off at the young age of 16 while he balanced a life of school and music. Alan Walker is a very hard working self-taught artist, and he deserves all the success. It’s not easy to continue on with so much eyes and attention on your every move, so I applaud Alan Walker for not letting the pressure and fame get to him. Also, watching the crowd sing along and dance to “Faded” would be a monumental sight to see.
Galantis
Galantis is a duo that makes some of the best feel-good dance tracks. They incorporate live instrumentation into their set with huge drums and are adamant about showing the crowd a good time. Their setup and visuals are impressive, and it goes to show how much thought they have put in. Two people both doing their thing on stage may seem like too many cooks in the kitchen, but the Galantis guys are very synchronized as they compliment each other. I very highly recommend catching their set, and I’m thankful that my friend put me onto their music.
NGHTMRE + Slander

I’d like to geek out a bit and point out that there’s a NGHTMRE + Slander B2B (Gud Vibrations) set. I was speechless when I saw that. On their own, NGHTMRE and Slander stand their own grounds as DJs. So together, they’re basically invincible. Ever since I saw a video of their set on YouTube, I’ve wanted to hear their positive vibed b2b myself in person. Their carefully crafted set and insane light show is one you’d want to be at, and you’d definitely be left feeling happy and on a high.
Marshmello
Marshmello has become one of the most well-known names in EDM, especially in recent years when he’s started collaborating with big artists of other genres. He incorporates a lot of classic and well-known tracks into his set so that people who aren’t his fans can enjoy the set as well. Marshmello’s set is a must see if you’re a part of the EDM culture or a fan of EDM music.
In my opinion, this year’s Ultra Taiwan is definitely worth going to. This is the very first year being labeled as Ultra along with a killer lineup. Additionally, the price is relatively low and worth it. If you’re interested, tickets are still available for purchase!
