New Music From Kids See Ghosts, Vic Mensa, Quinn XCII, and More

Vic Mensa And Kids See Ghosts Headline This New Music Friday

It’s a great weekend for music. Among all this rap beef madness, something good has resulted. A lot of new music across all genres are getting released. This includes seeing new music from Vic Mensa, G-Eazy, Kids See Ghosts and more. Especially with all the singles that have dropped, we can expect lots of incredible albums later in the year. Check out all the new music below:

“Reverse” – Vic Mensa ft. G-Eazy

I’ve been waiting for a collaboration between Vic Mensa and G-Eazy for over two years now. So, I was ecstatic to hear that this day has finally come. Vic debuted the song at Governor’s Ball to end his set. “Reverse” reassures the fans that the Vic with seamless rap flow is not gone after releasing tracks with more melodic vocals.

With the new [head] shave, tattoos, and a new look, we can expect a different Vic after the transformational period.

“Addicted to Ballin” -Kamaiyah ft. Schoolboy Q

Kamaiyah had just graced Seattle with her presence at the Upstream Festival a couple days ago, and I was happy to hear from her again. Her last mixtape Before I Wake Up was released less than a year ago. However, the Bay Area icon has not stopped working since then.

With DJ Mustard’s well-known opening ad-lib and hard beat, the track makes you want to get down and get ratchet. Along with Schoolboy Q’s catchy verse, this west coast collaboration is the perfect club hit.

Kids See Ghosts – Kanye West & Kid Cudi

A joint album between Kanye and Kid Cudi has finally happened. The album consists of only seven tracks, but it’s all stellar. This collaborative work has been a long time coming, and the album lived up to expectations, if not more.

Lyrics from the album will be seen everywhere on social media for this next month. A more thorough review of the album will be up on our website soon.

“Jugamos” – Skizzy Mars

After a 2 year hiatus from making music, Skizzy Mars is back with a track on his birthday. During the time that he took off, Skizzy worked to improve his mental state and mental health. Skizzy released an EP titled are you OK? when he returned, and he recently stated that “2006” is his favorite track because of how honest it is.

“Jugamos” marks a new and improved Skizzy. In his own words, “I learned how to love a woman and not just want something from her,”  and that’s very relevant to the lyrics.

Sleeping With Roses – Chelsea Cutler

Chelsea Cutler is an incredible female vocalist who I had discovered her through Quin XCII and Jeremy Zucker. She’s a name that’s on the rise with lots of potential. Sleeping With Roses is her first mixtape debut after being signed to Visionary Music Group (label of Jon Bellion, Logic, and more).

In her own words, “This mixtape is a collection of songs that represent a dichotomy- being so happy and so sad all at once. Knowing so clearly what you want while also not knowing anything at all. Writing this helped me find my peace. I pray it helps you find yours.”

“The Light” – Jeremih & TY Dolla $ign

A couple months ago, Jeremih and TY Dolla $ign announced that they’ll be making a joint album, titled “MihTy.” Since then, there has been a lot of anticipation for this r&b album. Both singers are known for their smooth vocals and sensual lyrics, and there’s no doubt that there’ll be another baby boom nine months following the album release.

“The Light” is the first single from the album, and it certainly will get you in a certain mood. Hitmaker is the producer behind the album, and calls it his “best work to date.” TY$ himself says that it’ll be “a consistent album of bangers.” Hopefully, we can get this album before the end of the year.

“Middle Finger” -Quinn XCII ft. Phoebe Ryan

Quinn XCII has had a big year in music after he has gotten a lot of attention through his music. I had found Quinn about two years ago through a friend of his that had used a track in the vlog I was watching. To watch him blow up and play bigger venues tour after tour was an incredible feeling.

He just played at Red Rocks with Louis the Child and continues on a festival tour run. Quinn will be playing on Friday on Vera Stage at the Capitol Hill Block Party. If you’ll be there, don’t miss his set!

“Generation Numb” – Fat Nick

Fat Nick is a rapper who can be labeled as a “SoundCloud rapper.” He and his music started becoming popular through exposure from No Jumper and Adam 22. Although he partakes in the regular hip-hop lifestyle of weed and syrup, Fat Nick changes up people’s perceptions of him. He calls himself America’s sweetheart, and describes himself as ‘cute,’ while covered in colorful, cartoon-like tattoos.

“imagine if” – gnash

gnash popped off in 2016 and 2017 after his single “i hate u i love u” went viral and got a lot of attention. Despite just getting off a long tour run, gnash has been steadily putting out new music. “superlit,” “the broken hearts club,” and now “imagine if,” are all tracks that he has put out over the course of a couple months.

gnash explained in an Instagram live session that “imagine if” came to him as a demo while he was dealing with a lot. He resonated with the lyrics, from lines like “imagine if I had the power to control the voices in my head and I could tell them all to shut the fuck up.” He realized that as much as he connected to it, he needs to be the voice to spread the message in hopes that his fans can connect to the track as well.

“Pa Mi” – Tory Lanez ft. Ozuna

Tory Lanez announced that he will be releasing a Latin Album, titled El Agua. With hit Latin songs from Bad Bunny and other artists, it’s proven that a song doesn’t have to be in English to chart. On the track, Tory retains his smooth r&b vocals as he flows in fluent Spanish.

He is currently on tour for his latest album release, Memories Don’t Die. He will play at the Showbox Sodo on the 8th, and in Spokane at the Knitting Factory on the 14th. Tory’s energy is unlike any other, and I highly recommend seeing him live if possible.
