Minnesota Rapper Xanacova Drops Intimate Debut Album ‘Send Help’

If there’s something we’ve learned covering hip-hop is that it’s not just the major cities that cultivate quality rappers. In fact, some of the smallest towns will surprise you when it comes to the local talent. Zoom into the small town of Austin, Minnesota and you’ll find Xanacova, a local hip-hop artist grinding to make a name for himself outside of the midwest. His releases from 2020 set a solid foundation, but his debut album Send Help is what is bound to put him on the map.

Send Help by Xanacova releases today, August 27th, and marks the rapper’s first full length project. Produced by Joellee Lundberg, Send Help covers a range of intimate topics over 16 tracks, from relationships to mental illness and more. “Send Help is my emotions toward feeling lost,” Xanacova says to describe the album overall. He strives for this project to connect with people and give them a sense of hope if they’re going through similar situations. He successfully does this through vulnerable lyrics and a strong emotional delivery.

My goal for it was to have some sort of connection and a glimmer of hope for people out there that might find it and idk, feel what I felt. Empathy. Whether it’s from issues of a significant other or a parent or friendships.. We’ve all felt something like this project.

Xanacova described some of his experiences that influenced the creation of this album. He says, “Growing pains and early life love interests were (and kinda still are) a fixation in my life and that with the inclusion of stress and anxiety from everyday life being me started to cause severe depression and I started making music to help me cope. By releasing music it allows me to send those vibrations and thoughts out into the universe, you know? Music saved me in a sense.”

About Xanacova

Rappers from big cities usually have much to say about how their hometowns and local legends influence their sound. But coming from a small town, Xanacova doesn’t have much to say about Austin’s impact. He states, “Austin itself really never was it for me. I guess I’m just searching for a home to call home, wanderer looking for something that Austin never really gave me.”

I’m trying to get out and find my place and make more music along the way. Whether that’s here or somewhere else is yet to be seen.

What’s next for Xanacova?

Though Austin, Minnesota is lacking a solid hip-hop market, Xanacova and the label behind him, The Lotto Tribe, continue to craft their own scene and make waves. Xanacova lets us know he has a ton of stuff in the works. He couldn’t give too many details, but expect merch, visuals, and more music.

Just keep your head up, keep making things and keep pushing. If something has you down, reach out, you know? Make sure your friends are okay.
