André 3000 was recently on the verge of redacting his feature from Killer Mike’s upcoming album. However, the Southern rap veteran changed his mind when he heard the song in its final form. And that’s the power of a captivating hook and crispy production!
In an Instagram post (June 5), Killer Mike posted a video from a listening session detailing his collaborator’s doubts. In it, he reveals that it was Detroit singer Eryn Allen Kane’s hook on the collaborative effort that made André see things differently.
“André 3000, he’s in Japan right now as we talk, playing the flute,” Mike explains. “He called me, he’s like, ‘Kill, I don’t know about the song, man. We just got a good rap record, man.’ “And then Cuz [Lightyear] was like, ‘You sent him the final record?’ I’m like, ‘Nah.’ I sent it over with Eryn’s hook and stuff. He hit back with, ‘Yeah, yeah, you got the record. Who is that?!’”
Mike concludes the story by expressing his gratitude for the artist without whom André 3000 would’ve most likely scrapped his contribution: “Thank you, Eryn, I really appreciate you for that.”
The song in question is titled “Scientists & Engineers” and will also feature Future. This will be André 3000’s first song since Ye’s “Life of the Party” from the deluxe release of Donda in 2021.
